What Will I Learn as a Student?
Our Education Model
Each academic course, skill competency, and behavior expectation is shaped around three domains of human learning:
Knowledge
- Electrical theory and broadband service delivery
- Smart grid and electrical devices
- Rigging, loads and equipment
- OSHA 10-Hour Electrical Transmission & Distribution Training
Skill
- Work in elevated positions using most up-to-date safety equipment
- Operate bucket trucks digger derricks
- Telecommunications Overlashing
- Overhead & underground power distribution systems, rigging and safety
Behavior
- Developing professionalism and positive work ethic
- Working safely using The Capacity Model and rescue methods
- Identification of career options and interview confidently
Training Environment
NLC promotes a positive learning environment where students are challenged, encouraged, and held accountable. Students are placed in crews where teamwork is emphasized daily.
Class Day & Size
Students attend class and field training in equal parts each day, Monday through Thursday. Fridays are reserved for preparation and study.
Class sizes are limited to maximize student safety, productivity, and camaraderie.
Tools of the Trade
Students are required to purchase specific climbing and hand tools on campus. Instructors will provide a personal fitting for you. After graduation, you will continue to use these tools every day on the job.

Admissions Requirements
- Be at least 18 years of age by the start date of the term you select.
- Have a high school diploma or GED.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Be eligible to obtain a Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL).
- Be physically and mentally fit to participate (official Medical Release form provided during enrollment process).
- Provide proof of current medical insurance coverage by the start date of the term you select. (Students are required to keep current coverage for the duration of the program.)
- Not have a felony conviction on your record.
- Weigh no more than 270 pounds due to weight restrictions of fall protection equipment.
If you meet these qualifications, you are welcome to submit an application.
